DESCRIPTION:WCAR’s Membership Meeting this month is all about finding efficiency and conserving resources in our local housing market. We will be having our speakers (info below!), But there is more!\nMini Trade Show!\nThere will be TWELVE (12) organizations in a mini “trade show” talking about green housing construction, energy conservation, solar installations and more!\nThe “Trade Show” will be BEFORE & AFTER the speakers’ panel presentation!\n(Food Truck Will Be Present!)\nPlease plan to arrive early and leave later so you can meet the vendors and gather information about the services they provide!\nThose participating in the Trade Show are:\n\nTC Legend Homes\nMcAuley Design Works\nConservation Easement Program – Whatcom Co.\nPuget Sound Energy\nCommunity Energy Challenge – Opp. Counc.\nKing County Built Green\nHabitat for Humanity – Whatcom County\nSustainable Connections – Toward Zero Waste Team\nWhatcom Land Trust\nEcotech Solar\nAdvisory Lending Group – Carla Lee (Energy Efficient Mortgages)\nCity of Bellingham\n\nSpeakers Include\n\n\n\n\nBuilt Green\nJane Wybenga is the Built Green Specialist. She acts as the primary point of contact for members and leads project enrollment and certification review, outreach, education, and events. She supports the progression of the Built Green program by performing research on the newest green building initiatives and engaging with strategic partners and stakeholders.\nJane will discuss how the Built Green program from the Master Builders creates healthier, comfortable living while saving money, conserving natural resources and reducing carbon footprints, actions that create a healthier habitat.\n\n\n\nPuget Sound Energy\nHunter Hassig has spent the last decade working in the energy efficiency and clean energy sectors. A graduate of WWU’s College of the Environment, Hunter currently serves Whatcom County as Puget Sound Energy’s Outreach Manager designing outreach strategies to involve PSE customers in the clean energy transition.Hunter will discuss PSE’s plan to meet ambitious clean energy goals along with new programs available to our community to cut costs and reduce their environmental impact. \n\n\n\nTC Legend Homes\nTed Clifton has a background of 30+ years in the residential construction industry. He is passionate about the process of drafting a family’s dream home and turning it into a reality. Building Net-Zero Carbon Neutral Energy homes adds another level of purpose in his work and is motivated in being a leader of sustainability.\nTed will discuss what makes a Net Zero Energy home different and how we achieve sustainable housing.\n\n\n\nHabitat For Humanity\nChristopher vanStaalduinen has 28 years construction experience and 22 years as a general contractor. Construction experience includes new construction of single-family homes, multifamily homes, commercial buildings, Chris has been the Construction Director for Habitat for Humanity since May of 2019.\nBrian Mattioli has over 20 years of experience in real estate from construction to property management to home inspections. Owner of Habitat Home Inspections and Habitat Home Improvement, Brian now works with Habitat for Humanity as a site superintendent.Brian and Chris will discuss how energy efficient sustainable construction impacts the lives of their homes buyers.\nAffordable homes are possible when overall costs are minimized. Habitat constructs homes affordable for purchase but also affordable to live in for the future. Building to zero-net energy and passive home standards keeps energy expenses low for new, low-income homeowners thanks to things like triple-pane glass, extra insulation and heat exchangers.\n\n\n\n \n \n \n
